Press Release Instructions


Issuing a press release to local publications will create and increase awareness about the value of the current Illinois Plumbing Code and Illinois Plumbing License Law in your community.

Please read and follow the instructions below:
  1. Use the press release provided by the Coalition. An editable version can be downloaded here. (Microsoft Word document)
  2. Be sure to replace your personal information at the top of the Press Release:
    John Smith
    Superior Plumbing Company (For the Plumbing Coalition for Public Health and Safety)
    xxx-xxx-xxxx
    [email protected]
  3. At the beginning of the press release, insert the name of your town and the date:
    My Town, Ill. (October 1, 2004) – In light of the formation of a state task force to study building codes in Illinois, the Plumbing Coalition...
  4. Identify reporters in your local papers or business journals that may be interested in covering this topic. You can find their names at the bottom or top of most of their articles. Once found, call the reporters and inform them of your press release and see if they are interested in running a news item about it.
  5. Send interested reporters a copy of your release, by whatever means they request. Please note that if they request it by email, you will need to copy and paste the document into the body of your email—no attachments.
  6. Once you send out your release, you can then follow up with the reporter to see if he/she has any additional questions.
  7. If you are unable to find any reporters, you can always contact the editor of the publication. Follow the same procedure as if you were contacting a reporter.
